SWMC Welcomes Baby Oliviah as 2022 New Year’s Baby

Liberal, KS- Southwest Medical Center announces the birth of the hospital’s first 2022 New Year’s Baby.
Oliviah James Matheny was born on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 12:55 a.m., to proud parents Marissa Sanchez and
Brett Matheny of Elkhart.

They quickly headed to the hospital on January 1st at 10 a.m. when signs of labor began. As many people have,
they reflected on the past year and shared that they had several blessings to be thankful for; however, the news of
their daughter was the greatest of all. Baby Oliviah was delivered by Southwest Medical Center
OB/GYN Physician, Dr. Lamberto Flores. She weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 19 inches long.

As the 2022 New Year’s Baby, the family received a celebratory gift basket from Southwest Medical Center.
In 2021, SWMC delivered more than 725 babies and is proud to be recognized by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) with a Blue Distinction®+ Award for meeting the rigorous Blue Distinction Centers+ quality selection criteria for maternity care set by the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. This distinction is awarded to facilities recognized for higher quality and cost-efficiency in Maternity Care.

SWMC offers free childbirth classes for those who are expecting and want to learn about the signs of labor, relaxation breathing techniques, and infant care. The sessions also cover breast and bottle feeding to help guarantee their baby gets the best nutritional start.
