Southwest Medical Center Deals with Covid 19

Brock Kappelmann - May 18, 2020 1:30 pm

The Unified Command of The Emergency Operations Center wants people to know the local hospital is operational and safe.  In their Sunday pres conference Eli Svaty spoke about Southwest Medical Center.

“Southwest Medical Center continues to serve the communities of southwest Kansas and the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles with care,” Svaty said.  “At times during the course of last week, SWMC’s  Covid 19 capacity reached twenty patients.  Those patients range from local Seward County residents to others from the surrounding area.  The hospital census changes daily as patients begin to recover and can continue isolation elsewhere while new patients whose symptoms have worsened arrive needing specialized support.  The hospital says that if you need medical care, procedures are in place to avoid any cross-contamination between Covid 19 patients and the general population at the hospital.  Babies continue to be born  Elective surgeries are operational.  Emergency room needs never stop.  The hospital has directives in place so patients receive the care they need without the risk of exposure. “
