Show Me a Winner

She was hardly even winded. And with two cute little children at the finish line to greet her maybe we can understand why. Twenty-eight year old mother of two Nicole Showengerdt won the 62nd annual International Pancake Day Race in a time of 1:03.41. Olney’s Nicky Stallis ran the English leg of the 415 yard "S" shaped curve in 1:12. Showengerdt raced to a big lead on Kansas Avenue before the racers made their way to 5th Street. She won by a wide margin running in between the snow flakes on a 28 degree day in Liberal. Nicole says it was a thrill to win. "It feels really good," the first time race winner said. "I got a little tired at the end, but it was fun." She says she worked hard for the race. "I been training for two months now. I’ve been doing a lot of weight lifting and cardio. I’ve been training every single day."

Rebecca Rees, a 23 year old student at BYU was second. She ran the Olney race in 2008. Mikayla Knudsen, a 21 year old SCCC/ATS student was third after taking second last year. Liberal has won five straight and 12 of the past 13 races and leads the friendly competition 36-25-1.

Other race results are as follows:

Men’s Pacer Race
1. Sheldon White, 27

2. John Vaught, 34

3. Brent Evans, 37

Last Chance Race

2. Nancy Duncan
