Sex Offender Arrested In Texas County

In a report from the Guymon Daily Herald, a convicted sex offender was arrested in Texas County earlier this month. Twenty-six year old John Hoffman was livung with a family in Tyrone who baby sat and had two children. The family says they were unaware of the man’s sex offender status while he was living with them. The principal of Tyrone’s schools also reported Hoffman had been hanging out on school grounds for a few weeks. On June 2, a Guymon resident, who was aware of Hoffman’s criminal history, observed him carrying a gas can and walking to a home behind Academy Alternative School. They contacted the Texas County Sheriff’s Office who arrested Hoffman. He was released on a bond of $20,000.00 and awaits trial for a count of failure to notify address change as a sex offender, a count of failure to notify all occupants in the home, a count of being a sex offender living within 2000 feet of a school, a count of failing to register as a sex offender, and a count of being in safety zones around elementary and junior high schools, high schools facilities and playgrounds. The first four counts mentioned are felonies and the last count a misdemeanor.
