Seward County Works Several Grass Fires

On Tuesday, August 24th at 3:07 pm Seward County Fire Department was dispatched to a vegetation fire on Road J at Road 22 in Northern Seward County. While enroute, communications advised responding units that reports indicated multiple vegetation fires in the area of the original dispatch.

Units arrived on scene to find a Road side ditch on fire at Road J and Road 22, just west of this Location units also located a small vegetation fire with a live power line down. Further North at Road J and Road 24 units found another vegetation fire.

All fires were contained and extinguished, CMS Electric was notified and responded to the scene. No injuries or damage was reported. The department responded with 2 engines, 2 water tenders, 2 chief officers, and 5 firefighters.

The department was assisted by Seward County Sheriff’s Office and a local farmer with a tractor and disc. All fires are related in nature and are associated with the downed power line.
