Seward County Commission Meets, Approves Hiring Of Additional Firefighters

The Seward County Commission met on Tuesday evening for their regular meeting. To kick off the meeting, the County Commission was presented a dividend check from Employers Mutual through Al Shank Insurance in the amount of $22, 162.32.

The Commission then approved the bid from Terry Blaser Construction in the amount of $233,024 for the 4-H/Multi Purpose Facility. the winning Water line installation bid came from Franks Plumbing Inc. in the amount of $4,093.31.

As a result of the Rural Fire Town Hall meetings, the County Commission approved the hiring of 2 full time firefighter who will be on duty 8-5 Monday through Friday. The Commissioners also waived the nepotism policy for the Seward county Fire Department.

The County will be making the switch to the VoIP phone system for the amount of $17,250.00.

County Commissioners accepted the resignation of Lora Hershey from the Council on Aging Board and appointed Chuck Scroggs to fill her unexpired term.

Commissioners approved a building permit for a construction project in the county. The permit had previously been denied by the County Planning and Board. The Commission put the stipulation on that occupancy cannot take place until the road is complete.

The Commission also waived the $600 fees for the use Activity Center and kitchen for the Liberal Ministerial Alliance Annual Community Thanksgiving Event.
