Seward County Commission Hears Several Updates

Joe Denoyer - April 3, 2023 10:12 pm

The Seward County Commissioners met on Monday evening at 5:30 pm and heard from Neal Coffey who provided the Commissioners with an update on building a standardized maintenance program. Commissioners reviewed and approved the Cimarron Basin Community Corrections Fiscal Year 2024 Comprehensive Plan Grant Application, and approved a lease-purchase agreement with the Bank of Beaver City for a new 2023 Roll-off Truck. The financial impact to the County will be $195,103.00

The Commission allowed the Road and Bridge Department to start the process of looking for and purchasing a used tractor needed to replace a 1980 John Deere 4440 Tractor that has 12,402 hrs on it and approved the Department’s permission to get bids for a dump trailer for Road and Bridge. This would be used to pick up trash, tires, appliances, furniture, etc., that are dumped in ditches along the county roads. At this time, they use a homemade pickup bed trailer.

Also approved was $21,160.25 from County Equipment, Fund 330, to pay for the cost share portion of State Grant, DR 4640 Mitigation Grant, allowing to place an additional 4 tornado sirens throughout our community.

Tessa French was approved to take over the unexpired term of David West for the 2023-2024 term of the Guardian ad Litem (GAL) contract.

Commissioners also held a discussion on moving the Rodeo Arena to in front of the Grandstands. $500,000 of ARPA funding has been set aside for this project.
