Seward County Commission Approves 2023 Budget

The Seward County Commission met on Tuesday, September 6 at 5:30 pm in the Commission Chambers with several Budgetary items on the agenda.

First, up was the explanation of the Budget Neutral Rate and what it means to the taxpayer followed by a public hearing on Exceeding the Budget Neutral Rate. This was then approved by the Commission. Commissioners then adopted the 2023 Budget. This Budget reflects Expenditures of $36,808,250 and an Amount of 2022 Ad Valorem Tax of $11,447,010.

Commissioners adopted the Capital Improvement Plan expenditures, and adjustments to the Cimarron Basin Community Corrections 2022 Budget. Commissioners also discussed the Comprehensive Plan.

The Commission approved repairs to the main hall roof at the event center with Jayhawk Roofing to do the roof repairs. Funds to be used are an amount of $6,700.00 out of the Event Center’s CIP and the remaining amount of $1,777.25 will come out of County Building fund. Also, in an added item, the Commissioners approved the County’s allocation for the WIC Program.
