Seward County 2009 H1N1 Flu Virus Update, May 4

Three new cases of infection with the 2009 H1N1 flu virus were identified in Kansas over the weekend, bringing the total count of confirmed and probable cases in the state to six. The three cases, which are all ź??presumptively confirmed,ź?ť were reported from Johnson County, Sedgwick County and Wyandotte County. ź??Presumptively confirmedź?ť means that while tests performed at the state public health laboratory have indicated the presence of the epidemic strain, the results have not yet been verified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). (see attachment for further information)

The Seward County Health Department (SCHD) and Southwest Medical Center (SWMC) in Liberal are being continuously updated and provided with information about this matter. These two entities are collaborating along with local Physician offices to maintain the health of our community. SWMC Laboratory has run a total of 20 Influenza tests since Sunday, April 26th with all results being negative for the Influenza A virus.

Once again there are no confirmed or suspect cases in Seward County. SWMC and SCHD are working at normal capacity. Everyone is advised to continue their normal day to day activities.
