SCCC Quiz Bowl Qualifies for Nationals

Joe Denoyer - February 27, 2023 1:08 am

The Seward Collegiate Quiz Bowl Team qualified for the National Collegiate NAQT Tournament this past weekend in Chicago. The team is only in its second year, and earned back-to-back national berths — quite an accomplishment for a novice team! They finished 24th overall, and Team Captain Nicole Piper, Hugoton sophomore, finished 31st individually out of 131 competitors. Other team members are Aidan Rice, Liberal freshman; Cody Bremenkamp, Liberal freshman; Alexis Williams, Plains freshman; Aubrey Schumacher, Elkhart sophomore; and Kaley Walls-LeGrand, Boise City, Okla., freshman. The team is coached by Charity Horinek, Executive Director of Grant Development.

Kansas was well-represented in the National tournament, with five teams: Seward, Garden City, Cowley A, Cowley B, and Johnson County Community Colleges. The Saints team was able to visit several educational sites, including the Chicago Institute of Art, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library.
