Saints Sweep Short-handed Pratt

KSCB News - April 29, 2009 12:00 am

The Seward County Saints finished the regular season with temperatures in the 40’s and a blowing mist Tuesday at Brent Gould Field. The weather may have been symbollic of the way both teams have been playing lately. Seward took two yesterday 7-5 and 14-3 in six innings. Pratt (15-40, 4-28) believed their season was over Sunday so they were missing their starting second baseman and shortstop after their exit interviews Monday. Pratt used players in different positions but almost beat the Saints in game one. Seward built a 6-1 lead going to the bottom of the six before Pratt scored two in the bottom of the inning with two errors. The Beavers scored two more in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate before Travis Parker came in for his eighth save and didn’t allow a run. Austin Terhune (4-3) six strong innings allowing one earned run and striking out seven. Parker and Keegan Morrow both had two hits and two RBI’s offensively. Seward’s big inning was a four run sixth. In game two, the Saints scored five in the third and four in the fourth in route to a run rule win. Mikel Huston went 3-5 with a homer and Josh Dawson added three hits. The Saints finish tied for fifth at 18-14 in the Jayhawk West but lose the tie breaker to Barton. They are 32-20 overall and will play at 33-15 Allen County Saturday at 1 pm in Iola. The double header will air on Talkradio 1270 and kscb.net.
