Saints Shut Down Dodge

KSCB News - March 29, 2010 12:00 am

The Seward baseball team held Dodge City scoreless in 16 innings Sunday at Cavalier Field in Dodge City as the Saints swept yet another Jayhawk West double header 5-0 and 6-0. Seward leads the Jayhawk West at 13-1. Camron Maldonado improved to 5-2 pitching all seven innings of game one. The Wichita State transfer from Canon City, Colorado pitched a two hitter. Maldonado struck out eight and beaned two. The division 1 transfer says these guys can play. “It’s great,” Maldonado said of playing with the Saints after logging 17.66 innings during an injury plagued season at WSU last year. “This group of guys could play at a much higher level. The competition is just as good or better. All these guys do a fantastic job.” The Saints scored two in the third and three in the fourth for all the offense they needed on a day when the wind blew in. Quay Grant, Josh Dawson, Jordan Dallalio, and Daniel Bruce had two hits a piece. In game two, Logan Hall pitched all nine innings as he improves to 3-2. The 6’4″ right hander from Eaton, Colorado struck out six and walked three. Seward started slowly offensively scoring one in the fourth but finished scoring one in the seventh and two in the eighth and ninth. Grant doubled twice for the Saints while Josh Dawson went 2-4 with two RBI’s. Seward (17-14, 13-1) plays two Monday at Dodge City (10-12, 6-8) at 3:05. Game one will air on kscbnews.net and game two will air on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
