Resurfacing Projects Start in Morton, Grant, and Haskell Counties

The Kansas Department of Transportation expects resurfacing projects on K-27 and K-51 in Morton County to begin by Friday, May 2. The surface recycle projects run from Richfield, east to Rolla on K-51, and from Richfield, north to the Morton/Stanton County line on K-27.

During construction, traffic will be limited to one lane through the work zone, guided by a pilot car. Drivers can expect delays of 15 minutes or less. The Kansas DOT urges drivers to be alert, pay attention to all work zone warning signs, slow down when approaching a work zone and be prepared to stop.

The contractor, Dustrol, Inc., of Towanda, plans to begin work on Friday at Richfield, working east and south on K-51 to Rolla. Once the K-51 portion is completed, the contractor will move to K-27. KDOT expects work on this $2.5 million T-WORKS preservation project to be completed by August, depending on weather.

The Kansas Department of Transportation expects a resurfacing project on U.S. 160 in Grant and Haskell counties to begin by Wednesday, April 30. The project runs from Ulysses to the junction of U.S. 160, U.S. 83 and K-144. The work includes milling the top one inch of asphalt, followed by a two-inch asphalt overlay.

The contractor, J & R Sand Co., Inc., of Liberal, plans to begin patching sections of U.S. 160 in Haskell County on Wednesday and then begin the mill and overlay operation in Grant County on Friday, May 2.
