Redskins Struggle in Homecoming Loss

Liberal head coach Ryan Petty called the game frustrating.  The third year Liberal head coach said his team wasn’t ready to play Friday night with Dodge City in town.  The Red Demons, who have two seniors with the rest of the team in the sophomore and freshmen classes, built a 14 point lead and beat the Redskins 59-53 on homecoming in the Big House Friday night.

After beating the Red Demons on December 19, Liberal found themselves down 12-2 and 12-7 after one quarter.  The Redskins trailed 27-24 at the half.  The Redskins found themselves in the hole in the third quarter trailed 38-24 and 43-34 after three.  The Redskins rallied to take a 50-48 lead with 4:18 to play and led 51-50 with 3:03 remaining.  LHS led 53-52 with 1:48 to play but missed several scoring opportunities late.

Hunter Hatcher had 14 but fouled out.  LHS shot 37 percent while Dodge City shot 45 percent.  Liberal was 4-18 from three point range while DCHS was 8-25.  Liberal was 15-25 at the foul line and Dodge was 15-28.

Liberal is 5-5 and 2-2 in the WAC while Dodge City is 3-6 and 1-1 in the WAC.  Liberal plays Abilene Thursday at 4:30 at the Brick House at Salina Central as part of the Salina Invitational.  The game will air on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
