Kenneth Patterson, Jr. age 89, died, July 19, 2026, in Hugoton, Kansas. He was born on June 18, 1937, in Garden City, Kansas. The son of Norman Kenneth, Sr., and Edith Gertrude (Penka) Patterson.

Kenny attended Grant County Rural High School, where he formed many lifelong friendships. He spent much of his career driving a cattle truck and working as a farmer and custom harvester, professions that reflected his love of agriculture and the land. Even in his later years, Kenny could still be found in the fields running his combine to harvest his own wheat or behind the wheel of a silage truck, doing the work he loved.

On December 13, 1959, Kenny married the love of his life, Joann Spencer, in Johnson, Kansas. In addition to their agricultural endeavors, Kenny and Joann owned and operated several restaurants in Ulysses. He was an active member of the Bit and Spur Club of Ulysses and the American Quarter Horse Association. When he wasn’t working, Kenny enjoyed spending time fishing at Monument Lake. Whether in a wheat field, behind the wheel of a truck, or casting a line into the water, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Those who knew Kenny will remember him most for his wonderful sense of humor.

He is survived by his children, Norman Patterson and wife, DiAnna, of Ulysses, Kansas and Tami Chandler and husband, Gary, of Ness City, Kansas; Grandchildren, Chris Patterson, Shawn Patterson, Seth Chandler, Shelby Chandler, Cassie Schemm, Makayla Syslo, Kelsey Clinton, Dusty Moore; great-grandchildren, Emmaline, Wyatt, Liam, Lorealie, Penelope, Gennesis; and his best K-9 companion, Jake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joann and his son Joe Bob, stepdaughters, Leann Moore and Alice Hook; grandchildren, Julie Ann, Franklin Tyrone, Wyndee, and Raynie; and great-granddaughter, Zoey.

Graveside Service and burial will be Monday, August 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses, Kansas, with Zach Zulauf and Carl Egley officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, August 2 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with family present at Garnand Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Furever Friends in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W.
