No Contest Plea In Ulysses Case

A woman from Grant County has plead no contest to a charge of obstruction of official duty for her involvement in an incident during which a man was shot in the chest.

Lexy M. Garza plead no contest in a pre-trial hearing Tuesday morning in Grant County District Court. Sentencing is scheduled for November 3rd.

She and her husband, Ramiro R. Garza Jr.,both plead not guilty in July in Grant County District Court to charges in connection with the April shooting of Esequiel Gutierrez, 32, Ulysses. A jury trial for Ramiro R. Garza Jr., is scheduled for Oct. 26.

Ramiro R. Garza Jr. charges include, criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling, aggravated assault, an aggravated weapons violation and one count of criminal possession of a firearm.

Lexy M. Garza was originally charged with one count of criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of obstruction to the legal process, according to Grant County Attorney Robin Hathaway
