Night Time Seatbelt Enforcement Nets Arrests

On January 30, 2013, during the hours of 7 pm to 11 pm, the Liberal Police Department participated in the Kansas Nighttime Seatbelt Enforcement Campaign. The Campaign was funded by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety.

The enforcement activity resulted in multiple citations being issued in the areas of 2nd St. and Kansas Ave., Pancake Blvd. and Kansas Ave. and 15th St. and Kansas Ave. A total of seventeen citations were issued for seatbelt violations. These included three citations for child passenger safety violations, one citation for age 14-17 seatbelt violation and fourteen adult seatbelt violations. Four more citations were issued for various drivers’ license violations.

During this enforcement three arrests were made. A 41-year-old male was arrested on the charge of Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, no drug tax stamp, refuse PBT and refuse Intoxilyzer. A 21-year-old female was arrested on the charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and no drug tax stamp. A 32 year-old male was arrested for driving while suspended and disobey traffic control device.

The Liberal Police Department wants to remind everyone to take time to buckle up, before you drive. The Liberal Police Department will be holding numerous nighttime seatbelt enforcements over the next year. Funding for this program is made possible by the Kansas Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety.
