Mid-Kansas Electric Co. says it plans to
build a natural gas power plant in Grant County.
The Hays-based company announced in a statement Monday that the
110-megawatt plant is expected to cost $130 million. It will be
built about 13 miles east of Ulysses. Construction is expected to
be finished by April 2014.
Mid-Kansas was created by six electric cooperatives to buy the
electric assets of Aquila. The cooperatives also own Sunflower
Electric.
The company’s statement said Grant County was chosen as the site
for the plant because it is close to transmission lines and a
competitive supply of natural gas.
