Local Man Releases Movie

Guymon resident, Joel Trujillo, had an idea after vacationing in Minnesota for a movie that is actually being released this Friday in Liberal, “Serpent Lake.”Trujillo says in the Guymon Daily Herald, “This movie has actually been in the works for the last three years,” said Trujillo. “I had gone on vacation in Minnesota, I was just looking at some sights and came across a little town called Crosby. There was a little statue there of a serpent or a lizard, the place was called Serpent Lake. When trying to find out why they called it that, well it had nothing to do with a monster in their lake, so I thought, wouldn’t it be neat if I wrote up a script about a creature that lives in the lake that only comes out every 30 years. So the movie takes place now in the summer of 2009, so the last sighting would be in 1979 and it would go back to that time. So, almost every generation gets to see this monster and that is how I came up with the idea for the movie. Last summer, I filmed the movie and then it took us another six to eight months to get the special effects into the movie. Starring in the film from Guymon is the Vice Chairman of Main Street Guymon, Michael Shannon, he makes a cameo as a fisherman, that’s all I can say without giving it away, he did a great job.”

THe film synopsis; Every 30 years, in the summer there is a mysterious unidentified creature claimed to inhabit Astaire’s freshwater lake in Minnesota.

Along with Loch Ness monster Nessie and Lake Champlain’s Champ, this monster is one of the best-known mysteries of crypto zoology. Most scientists and other experts find current evidence supporting the creature’s existence unpersuasive and regard the occasional sightings as hoaxes or misidentification of known creatures or natural phenomena. Minnesotans believe in this legend, even though their theories may vary. The creature thought to be a plesiosaur being the most popular of these theories. But unlike Loch Ness or Lake Champlain, there is no canal linking Serpent Lake to the sea raising the question,” Where does this creature come from? And during this time some people in or around the lake come up missing.
