Liberal Tennis Faces Tough Competition at Mac

The Lady Redskins gained valuable experience Saturday at the McPherson Invitational Varsity Girlsź?? Tennis Tournament. Competing against some of the best talent in the state, Liberal improved their odds for a good seed for the up-coming Regional Tennis Tournament in Salina next Friday. The thirteen teams represented were Hutchinson, Newton, Salina Central, Topeka West, Campus, Great Bend, Ark City, Derby, Garden City, Hays, Liberal, and McPherson.

Individual Results:

#1 Singlesź??Susan Nguyen went 2-2 on the day finishing 4th Place. After a first round bye due to an impressive 5th seed, Susan defeated Brett Fair from Topeka West 8-2. She then defeated Laurel Michael from Salina Central 8-7 (9-7 in an exciting tie-breaker), In the semifinals, Susan lost 8-2 to the #1 seed from Ark City, Mariah Vargas. The battle for 3rd and 4th place pitted Susan with the #2 seed, Jordan Brown from Salina Central. This time the exciting tie-breaker went Salinaź??s way as Susan lost 8-7 (7-4 in a tie-breaker).

#2 Singlesź??Shelby Hay went 0-3 on the day but gained valuable experience playing #1 singles players for the first time. Shelby lost to McPhersonź??s Kylie Bonham, lost to Salina Centralź??s Rachel Frazier, then lost to Garden Cityź??s Paige Russell.

#1 Doublesź??Caitlin Workman/Kathy Nguyen went 1-3 on the day. They lost to Ark Cityź??s Saia/Headrick. This team bounced back to knock off Newtonź??s Blaufuss/Vogt 8-1. They lost to

Haysź?? Bannister/Kippes and lost to the team from Topeka Wes , Roberts/Press

#2 Doublesź??Kassandra Rosales/Lauren Harp fought hard but finished the day 0-3. They lost to Salina Centralź??s Mansfield/Cooper, lost to Lundsford/McRae from Hays and lost to Topeka Westź??s Kresie/Welch.
