Liberal Takes On All Comers in Emporia

Quality wins propel the Liberal Redskins closer to Regional seeding opportunities.

The doubles team of Vince Nguyen and Duc Nguyen improved their position by upsetting a quality team from McPherson. The doubles team of Josh Hamilton and Hai Vo upset a team from Wichita East, and Antonio Rodriguez upset Empori s Nic Hrabik to improve their chances for a good seed going into Regionals next week. Liberal did not place as a team as Washburn Rural continues to dominate followed by McPherson, and Manhattan. Competing teams included Emporia, McPherson, Washburn Rural, Manhattan, Wichita East, and Liberal.

Individual results:

#1 Single Larcyn Carter went 0-3 on the day but fought hard and gained valuable experience. He lost to McPherso s Mark Gayer 4-8, lost to Empori s Chris Reimer 1-8, then lost to Manhatta s Dylan Johnson 2-8.

#2 Single Antonio Rodriguez went 1-2 on the day finishing 4th Place. He lost to McPherso sMax Pyle 1-8, lost to Manhatta s Jake Seaton 2-8, then upset Empori s Nic Hrabik 8-7 (7-4 tie breaker) to win 4th Place.

#1 Double Duc Nguyen & Vince Nguyen began the day knocking off a McPherson team consisting of a State Champion, Nathan Wehrman, and a quality player in Tyler Singleton. In an exciting match of quality tennis, Liberal won 8-5. They defeated Empori s Zach Windsor & Saul Trujillo 8-1 to send them to the finals against Washburn Rural. Washbur s 6A State Qualifying Team of Simon Beatty and Jake Long took top honors with an impressive 8-0 win. LH team of Nguyen & Nguyen took 2nd Place Honors.

#2 Double Hai Vo & Josh Hamilton went 1-2 on the day finishing 5th Place. They lost to McPherso s Horton/Davidson 4-8, lost to Empori s Kitchens/Hanson 5-8, then defeated Wichita Eas s Nola/Nguyen 8-3 to earn 5th Place.
