One of Liberal High School’s AVID seniors has been selected as a speaker for AVID Summer Institute! Nearly one thousand people entered the speaker contest. From those entries, only 37 seniors were selected nationwide. One of Liberal’s Senior AVID students, Kelyn Melendez, was selected. In her congratulations letter AVID told her, “Out of all those amazing stories, yours truly shined.” Kelyn will be sharing her story at the Dallas Summer Institute in June in front of thousands of AVID educators. Kelyn will attend SCCC and then transfer to Kansas State University.

Brandy Gomez, another LHS AVID senior, has received the DELL Scholarship. She will receive $20,000, a Dell computer, and a personal academic advisor. Brandy competed with other seniors throughout the nation to receive this honor. She wrote numerous essays sharing her personal story of her journey to college. Brandy will attend The University of Kansas in the fall of 2018.
