Liberal Residents “Meet the Candidates”

Joe Denoyer - April 4, 2022 4:34 pm

The Liberal City Commission in conjunction with the League of Kansas Municipalities have been conducting a search for a new City Manager for Liberal since current City Manager Calvin Burke announced his retirement effective July 1st. While the City employed the help of the LKM to help with the search process, commissioners over the past few weeks have been conducting interviews with potential candidates. A wide spectrum of interested parties applied for the job, and Monday evening, the City of Liberal hosted a Come and Go Reception at the Conference Center with the two finalists. Those two individuals are JD Cox of Independence And Rusty Varnado of Ellsworth. Rusty retired from the military in 2018 and has been in City Administration since. JD comes with 25 years experience of City Government administration.

The City Commission will hold a Special Meeting Tuesday morning at 8:30, in the Dorothy Room of the Conference Center, to conduct another set of interviews with these two candidates.
