The Liberal Fire Department responded to a reported shed fire at 421 Driftwood on Thursday morning at 3:23 am.

First arriving units reported heavy flames showing from the shed and exposure fires to two adjacent fences. The shed is located in the rear yard of the property. Firefighters attacked the fire from the alley and were able to quickly extinguish it. Firefighters were able to confine the fire to the shed and the adjacent fences already involved. No civilian injuries are reported in this incident. However, the fire did result in the death of five dogs located in the shed. Firefighters remained on scene until 4:35 am extinguishing hot spots and conducting an on-scene investigation. The shed is a total loss. The Liberal Fire Department responded to the incident with 10 firefighters, two engines, and a light support vehicle. The Liberal Police Department responded to the incident as well. Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing at this time.
