Liberal City Commission Meets

The Liberal City Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night at 6:30pm at the City Commission Chambers. At the meeting, the City of Liberal proclaimed September as National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. The commission also approved the Golf Cart Ordinance. City staff is currently working on the registration stickers, and could have those ready in the next week or two, which means golf carts if properly registered, could be legally driven on city streets on direct routes to and from the golf course. They must also adhere to all the rules and regulations set forth by the city commission in Ordinance 4374. The commission also moved to a second reading the Floodplain Management Regulations and Flood Insurance Rate Maps. According to staff there are little or no changes in the maps since 1990. City Commissioners approved the purchase of two vehicles, one for the Fire Department, a 2010 Ford F150 from Foss Ford of Liberal in the amount of $14,000.00 and the equipment to outfit the vehicle in the amount of $2,500.85 for a total cost of $16,500.85. The second vehicle approved was a 2010 Ford Fusion also from Foss Ford, in the amount of $14,500.00. This vehicle will be used in the Economic Development Department. In other action items, commissioners approved, vehicle and environmental abatements, set a hearing date for the condemnation of 39 S. Calhoun for, Tuesday, October 13th, 2009, approved the Airport land sale to King Enterprises in the amount of $2,500.00, and tabled the Western Avenue Project decision, pending further information. This should be back on the agenda, at he the next meeting. Also after an executive session, commissioners vote to approve the sale of four lots in Academy Court, to Ron Warren Construction in the amount of $36,000.00. The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be September 8, 2009.
