Liberal City Commission Approves Rezone of Property

Joe Denoyer - March 14, 2023 8:21 pm

The Liberal City Commission met on Tuesday evening and rescinded the Ordinance that made the City’s website the official newspaper for the City. It was discovered that only cities of the 2nd and 3rd class can do that. Liberal is a City of the 1st class.

The Commission approved a rezone of property from R-2 Two Family Dwelling to Light Industrial at 1011 East 8th Street. The Commissioners also adopted Ordinance 4599 a special use permit for 333 E. 18th Street for a 195 ft Telecommunications tower.

Resolutions 2395 and 2396 were approved which set a Public Hearing for RHIDs for Chance Road/Apache Lane and Larry Street/Hickory Street. The Hearings have been set for April 25th at 5:30 pm.

Commissioners approved purchasing new LED lighting for North Kansas Avenue and voted to start the process with AEAS to hopefully secure an air carrier for Liberal’s Airport. Airport Fire Training was also approved.

For the Fire Department, the Annual Turnout Coat and Pant replacement was approved as was the Basketball Court Resurface at the Recreation Center at a cost of $18,400.00

INA Alert received the bid for security cameras and software for the Police, Evidence, and Animal Shelter at a cost of $84,481 and for the Recreation Department for $162, 803.29.
