Lady Saint Assistant Resigns

KSCB News - July 3, 2009 12:00 am

One of the most decorated players in Lady Saints’ history has resigned as assistant coach. Kim Davis resigned her position Friday. She combined with head coach Toby Wynn for a 112-24 record in four seasons at Seward County. Included in that stretch is what is considered the second best team in SCCC history in 2007 when the Lady Saints went 36-2. Kim Ortega terrorized opposing backcourts for the best team in Lady Saint history in 2002 when Seward went 38-0 and won the NJCAA title under coach Jim Littell. She is the all-time SCCC record holder in career scoring average (17.8 ppg.), career steals (324) and her 19 free throws in the national championship game in 2001-02, is a school record and also the NJCAA National Tournament single-game record. In her two seasons, she led the Lady Saints to an overall record of 71-1 and to a perfect 32-0 Jayhawk West Conference record. Ortega-Davis is the only athlete in Seward County C.C. history to be named a two-time First Team NJCAA All-American. In two years, Ortega was selected two-time First Team All-Conference, two-time Jayhawk West Most Valuable Player, two-time First Team NJCAA All-Region 6, two-time Region 6 Most Valuable Player, two-time Region 6 All-Tournament Team, Jayhawk West Freshman of the Year, two-time First Team Womenź??s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)/District V All-American, two-time First Team WBCA All-American, two-time NJCAA First Team All-American, NJCAA Academic All-American, NJCAA All-Tournament Team, NJCAA All-Tournament Team Most Valuable Player, WBCA National Player of the Year, NJCAA National Player of the Year and as a freshman was one of only two junior college players in the nation selected to play in the World Games Trial.

Toby Wynn says he doesn’t have anyone in mind yet for an assistant coach. The timing of the resignation isn’t expected to significantly hamper recruiting as most of it is finished. Wynn played a major role in recruiting each of the signees so the Davis’s resignation isn’t expected to cause any transfers from the school.
