In Cold Blood’ Prosecutor Pens Wild West Musical

KSCB News - July 23, 2010 12:00 am

Fifty years after prosecuting one of

the biggest murder trials in Kansas history, Duane West has penned

a musical he hopes will someday play on Broadway.

West has titled the musical “Dream Your Dreams: The Buffalo

Jones Story.” The two-act show contains an overture and two dozen

original songs.

It tells the story of Charles Jesse Jones, who is credited with

helping to save the buffalo from extinction.

West was the chief Finney County prosecutor of the two men who

killed four members of the Clutter family in 1959 during a botched

robbery at their rural southwest Kansas farmhouse.

The killings were chronicled in Truman Capote’s book, “In Cold

Blood.”

West hopes to premiere his musical this fall as a benefit for

the United Way in Garden City in the fall.
