Hwy 54 Crash Sends Three To Hospital

A two vehicle accident 7 miles east of Liberal on Highway 54 has injured 3 people. The accident occurred Wednesday morning at 6:59am near Hayne. A 2016 KIA being driven by Chinh Bui, 47, of Kansas City Missouri was Eastbound on Hwy 54 when he attempted to pass a 2006 Dodge pick up being driven by Kirk Talley, 46, of Kismet. Bui was unable to pass the pick up, and attempted evasive manuever. He struck the Dodge truck on front passenger side. Bui, Talley, and a passenger in the KIA, Vincent Mattione, 57, of Leawood Kansas were all taken to Southwest Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. Seatbelts were in use by all three individuals. Highway 54 was closed down for a period of time and traffic rerouted due to the accident.
