Guymon Residents Asked To Curtail Water Useage

KSCB News - June 13, 2013 10:52 am

Guymon Public Works Director Ivan Clark has requested all Guymon residents not only curtail water use, but to stop outdoor watering until early next week, perhaps longer. Two of the city’s wells are down and the next 48 hours (today and Friday) are critical, he said.

City workers attempted to fill the municipality’s huge water storage tanks overnight, but the tanks didn’t fill completely, so "we started the day in the hole, so to speak," Clark told KGYN.

City workers will be visiting residents and businesses today to ask them to refrain from outdoor watering, likely until at least one well is back online.

Clark said it’s a lengthy process to get a well back onto the city’s public water supply.Of course, the well’s mechanical system must be repaired first, then flushed, shock it with chlorine, let it set for 24 hours, take back to back water samples 24 hours apart, get the samples tested at OPSU’s water lab, where they must sit for another 24 hours.
