Guymon Hosting Firefighter School

KSCB News - September 21, 2012 8:29 am

The Guymon Fire Department is teaming up with OPSU and OSU to host a fire school for the five state area for the second year in a row.
While OSU brings instructors from all over the state of Oklahoma, Dean McFadden of the Guymon Fire Department was responsible for organizing the school and says that there are 115 people signed up for the five state area. There will be 180 classes and certificates that are a result of the fire school
Some classes included will be ag rescue, suicide prevention, and live fire, just to name a few.
??Suicide prevention class is to try to teach firefighters how to tell if somebody might be suicidal or if co-workers or other firefighters are going thru depression they can kind of see it and help out,? said McFadden.
Many area companies and organizations are helping with the success of this school by donating money, meals, or other means necessary to keep it running and give everyone the resources needed.
Breakfast will be sponsored by OPSU, lunch sponsored by Tri-County, PTCI, and Seaboard. The Apollo flight crew is helping sponsor a reception dinner on Saturday night, and the Pub is sponsoring a free concert for the community and firefighters. Guymon Convention and Tourism is also helping with sponsorships for the school.
The school is held from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and is going to be a very positive experience for all firefighters coming to Guymon to attend.
