Gus Blackwell To Seek Re-Election

State Representative Gus Blackwell (R-Goodwell) has announced he will be seeking re-election to the House of Representatives from District 61. Presently he is in his fourth term as a House member.

Representative Blackwell has made his mark in several key areas during his short tenure in the House. He has served as Acting Speaker, Speaker Pro Tempore, Chairman of the Corrections and Criminal Justice Committee and Chairman of the Rules Committee.

He has been the principal author of over 40 bills that have become law during his tenure as a House member. For the past two sessions he has been a prime proponent of wind energy development in the state. He was also able to have the State Land Ad Valorem Reimbursement Fund fully funded for the first time ever. In addition he has continued to be a staunch supporter for his alma mater, Oklahoma Panhandle State University.

Rep Gus Blackwell serves in the largest House district which comprises almost 8,000 square miles and encompasses four complete counties and parts of two others.

Several awards have also highlighted the work and passion of Representative Blackwell. He has earned the distinction of being selected the outstanding Legislator by the District Attorney Council and was awarded the Meritorious Service Award by Farm Bureau as House Legislator of the year. He has also received awards from the AARP, Sheriffs Association, OSU, and Family and Children Therapists.
