Garden City Expands Ban On Fireworks

KSCB News - June 9, 2011 8:09 am

Finney County’s decision to ban
fireworks this year because of dry conditions means Garden City
residents also won’t be able to use them
Garden City Mayor John Doll says the county-wide ban, which was
implemented on Monday, means the city cannot allow the sell or use
of fireworks for this July Fourth. The city usually waives the ban
and allows fireworks over the holiday.
Fire chief Allen Shelton acknowledged that some fireworks
vendors who have already purchased their products are upset with
the ban. But he told the city commission Tuesday that dry
conditions throughout the county make the risk of fires too high.
Garden City police Sgt. Michael Reagle says officers plan to
strictly enforce the ban.
