Garden City Changing Air Service

KSCB News - June 9, 2011 1:38 pm

Garden City officials have voted to change the city’s airline service, which would mean offering daily flights to Dallas rather than Denver.

The commission’s decision on Tuesday to accept an Essential Air
Service bid from American Eagle must be approved by the U.S.
Department of Transportation.

The Garden City Telegram reports that American Eagle, the main
regional carrier for American Airlines, was one four companies to
bid for federally-subsidized service from the Garden City Regional
Airport.

American Eagle would offer twice daily round-trip flights from
Garden City to Dallas on a 44-seater aircraft. The airline would be
given a 120-day trial and will not be required to sign a two-year
contract.

The current carrier, Great Lakes Airlines, provides daily
flights to and from Denver.
