Frederic Gomez is Athlete of the Week

Liberal senior goalie Frederic Gomez is the Mead Lumber Athlete of the Week. He and the Redskin defense allowed just one goal during the first three rounds of the playoffs in wins 10-0 over Wichita West, 1-0 over McPherson, and 4-1 over Bishop Carroll. Gomez says his favorite sport is baseball and he plans on going out for wrestling also. The 15-1-3 Redskins play the Seaman Vikings who are 11-6-2 in Emporia Friday. Seaman upset Blue Valley 2-1 in Kansas City Tuesday. Defending state champion St. Thomas Aquinas plays Kapaun in the other semifinal at 7 p.m. The championship is Saturday at 2 p.m and the consolation game is at noon Saturday.
