Firefighters Injured in Beaver Fires

A Personal injury accident occurred on April 5th at 5:55pm on E0220, one half (0.5) mile east of US-83 (approximately 8 miles west and 5 miles north of Balko, OK) in Beaver county.

A 2003 Stewart-Stevens firetruck driven by Jason Smith, 43 of Balko, OK was eastbound on the roadway when the truck departed the roadway to the right and rolled in north ditch.. Smith was transported by Trooper Nichols #586 to Ochiltree General Hospital in Perryton, TX with arm and head injuries. He was then transferred via medical helicopter to a burn unit in Lubbock, TX. and admitted in stable condition.

A passenger in the firetruck, Tyler Morris, 46 of Balko, OK was transported by Trooper Nichols #586 to Ochiltree General Hospital in Perryton, TX with arm and head injuries. He also was then transferred via medical helicopter to a burn unit in Lubbock, TX. and was admitted in stable condition. Morris has since been released from the hospital.

Cause of the accident is being attributed to loss of visibility due to the smoke from the fires.
