Finney County To Vote On Sales Tax Renewal

KSCB News - December 17, 2013 10:05 am

Finney County residents will be asked to vote in March on whether to extend a sales tax for a law enforcement project.

The county commission decided Monday to schedule a March 4 special election. The ballot will ask voters to extend a quarter-cent sales tax to finance a 25,000-square-foot building to house court services, youth services and community corrections on county-owned property.

The Garden City Telegram reports the sales tax currently is paying for past improvements at the Law Enforcement Center. Bonds for that project are expected to be paid off in July 2014.

The cost of the new project is estimated at $6.625 million. If voters approve the extension, sales tax revenue would back bonds not to exceed that amount.
