Field Surveys to Start for Two Possible Bridge Replacement Projects

KSCB News - December 12, 2014 7:59 pm

Field surveys on two proposed bridge replacement projects in Hamilton County should start the week of December 15. The survey crew will gather information that is necessary for the detailed design of the proposed projects.

The two bridges are located on U.S. 50 in Hamilton County. One is approximately 7-1⁄2 miles east of the Colorado/Kansas state line. The second bridge is approximately 9/10 of a mile west of the U.S. 50/K-27 junction. KDOT currently has funding only for the preliminary engineering on these proposed bridge replacement projects and no money has been identified under T-WORKS for construction.

The survey work should last about three months. A member of the survey crew will contact property owners or tenants for permission to enter private property. Survey activities include the use of survey instruments on the ground to determine the locations of existing features within the survey corridor. Kirkham Michael & Associates is conducting this survey for the Kansas Department of Transportation.

If you have questions regarding the survey or possible improvements to this highway segment, you can call Gary Bennett, Area Engineer, at 620-384-7821 , or Kirk Hutchinson, KDOT Southwest Public Affairs Manager, at 1-877-550-5368
