Donations needed to help Red Cross recover from winter shortfall

LIBERAL, Kan. (Feb. 11, 2019) — Grace Martinez, 5, and Levi Foreman, 8, don’t share a lot in common. She loves anything princess, reading books and the color pink. Levi loves learning about history and visiting his grandparents’ ranch where he enjoys the horses and cattle.

However, they do share a common bond: Grace, diagnosed in January 2018 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and Levi, three years cancer-free from a very rare and aggressive brain tumor, both received blood during their cancer treatments.

The Liberal community can honor these two brave, young warriors at the upcoming blood drive held in their honor Feb. 28, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Friends Church of Liberal, 1650 North Western Ave.

This blood drive will help the blood supply recover from a donation shortfall over the winter holidays that prompted the Red Cross to issue an emergency call for blood donors to give now. Donors of all blood types, especially platelet donors and type O blood donors, are needed to prevent a blood shortage from continuing throughout winter and affecting patient care.

To make an appointment to donate in honor of Grace and Levi, use sponsor Liberal on the Red Cross Blood Donor App, online at RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
