City Commission Meets

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday night in the Liberal City Commission Chambers for their regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting began with the City proclaiming October 3 – 9 as Fire Prevention week throughout the City and also accepted an award from the U.S. Census Bureau. Dustin Ormiston of Hay, Rice, and Associates presented the City with the 2009 audit. He commended City staff, and said the City of Liberal is even in better financial shape than it was a year ago. He also stated that “you would be hard pressed to find a municipailty in any better shape than Liberal”. The commission voted to approve the audit and enter into a contract with Hay, Rice, and Associates for the 2010 audit. In other action, the Liberal City Commission approved the bid from King Enterprise of Liberal to improve the Brown Wells and run the necessary pipeline to connect the wells to the City’s system. Total cost of the project will be $672,347.46. Commissioners also unanimously approved the construction of a new park on the south end of town next to the South Fire Station. The park will include a shelter area, playground equipment 2 soccer fields and parking. Construction will start this fall. The Liberal City Commission will next meet as a part of the Council Of Governments on Thursday morning at 7:00am.
