Bee Jays Take Down 1st Place Hays

The Liberal Bee Jays handed the Hays Larks their third loss of the summer Tuesday night at Larks Park in Hays.  Liberal built a 10-4 lead on the way to a 10-6 victory.

The Larks scored one in the first and one in the third.  The B.J.’s plated three in the fourth for the 3-2 lead before Hays scored two in the bottom of the fourth for the 4-3 lead.  Liberal tied the game with a fifth inning run.  A six run sixth gave Liberal a 10-4 lead.  The Larks scored single runs in the seventh and ninth innings.

The B.J.’s out-hit Hays 12-8.  Liberal had two errors.  Cole Manuel was 3-5 with a home run and two RBI’s.  Josiah Rojas was 2-4 with a triple.  Cal Anthony was 2-4 with two runs.  Noah Giovanelli was 2-4 with a double.  Cooper Kardokus and Drew Gartman drove home two runs a piece.

Andrew Banda started on the mound and went five innings allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts and a walk.  Braxon Trenkle worked 1 and 2/3 allowing one run.  Jack Taczy went 1 and 1/3 scoreless.  Braden Whipple worked the ninth.

Hays is 20-3 overall and 15-3 in the Rocky Mountain.  Liberal is 15-8-1 overall and 12-6 in the Rocky Mountain.  The same two teams meet Wednesday night in Hays with pre-game at 6:45 and first pitch at 7pm on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
