Brock Kappelmann - October 6, 2021 8:07 am

You can listen to archived audio from the October 5 candidate forum presented by the Liberal Chamber of Commerce; presenting forum sponsor was Southwest Kansas Board of Realtors, with additional sponsorship from KSCB radio and other local media outlets.  Scroll to the bottom for the audio of the entire forum.

Candidates Casey Mein, Ron Oliver, and John West attended the forum; candidate Dustin R. Ormiston had a prior conflicting commitment and did not attend.

Audio of the candidates introducing themselves, in the same order as they did so at the forum:

Question 1:  “What do you see as the role of a Trustee?”

Q2: “What are the economic benefits of having a community college in Seward County and the region; what challenges do you foresee?”

Q3: “As a representative of Seward County taxpayers, what do you perceive as the taxpayer’s greatest needs from the college?”

Q4: “How can the Trustees and the Foundation Board work together to benefit the overall success of the college?”

Q5: “Why is your tax levy higher than the tax levy of USD 480?”

Q6: “How would you support the college administration in the expansion of SCCC programs and/or initiatives in the next five to ten years?”

Q7: “What should the role of the Trustees be in involvement with the Legislative issues at the state level?”

Q8:  “What strengths or skills do you have that would make you an effective or valuable Board of Trustee member?”

Q9: “In your opinion, what role should the college play in the community it serves?”

Q10: “Are you in favor of AC in the Green House?”

Q11: “Since SCCC voted to allow full athletic scholarships but did not provide them, why vote to allow them and not provide them?”

Q12: “What grants, if any, is SCCC involved in?”

Q13: “How many students receive tutoring at the school?”
