Alleged Robbery Suspect Arrested

After two separate burglaries occurred within one month on the same block, the Guymon Police Department has arrested Justin L. Gibbs, 25, for allegedly committing these crimes.

According the Texas Court Clerkź??s Office, in a story from the Guymon Daily Herald, Officers responded to a burglary in progress at the 800 block of north Main Street on October 26. Upon arrival the owner advised officers that they had found a coat in the yard and a broken window. The owner informed officers that they were unsure if the suspect was still in the home. Officers made a perimeter around the home while conducting the search for evidence and possibly the suspect. Once the residence was secured, officers processed and collected evidence from the scene. A gardening tool was used to break the window, a red bucket was found that the suspect used to stand on in order to break the window, broken glass lying on the ground and a red lettermanź??s jacket. A witness was located and informed officers that they had seen a black stocky male with a red jacket, diamond earrings in both ears and wore loose clothing. Damage was estimated at $400.

The report goes on to read that on November 2, 2009, officers were dispatched to another residence on the 800 block of north Main for a burglary not in progress. Upon arrival, the reporting party told officers that when thy arrived at the residence they found the home disturbed and that things were broken. Officers inspected the scene and found cigarette butts and drinking glasses that appeared to have been used by the perpetrator.

Forced entry was not detected. The loss amount was $50.

It then says that police were dispatched to Loves Country Store in reference to a person matching the description of the suspect in the first burglary mentioned. He was identified as Justin Johnson, he was then interviewed and read his Rights.

The report goes on to say that Justin claimed he moved here and after unfortunate circumstances he was without a home and food. He then he confessed to officers that he had burglarized two homes on Main Street and attempted to break into a third home. He informed officers that he had nowhere to go and with the cold weather, he needed a place to go. He went on to say that he stayed in a residence that was under reconstruction.

According to the affidavit, Justin he went to the front door steps of the first residence, changed his mind about going in and went back the following evening. Justin then apologized. Later, police discovered that Justinź??s actual name is Justin Gibbs. Gibbs was confronted, he admitted to not wanting to reveal that information due to a prior burglary charge from 1997 in California.

Gibbs is being held at the Texas County Detention Center and being charged with two counts of burglary in the second degree, attempted burglary in the second degree after former conviction and obstructing an officer. He is currently awaiting trial and being held on a $25,000.
