After Slow Start Redskins Breeze by Carroll

KSCB News - October 28, 2009 12:00 am

Liberal will play for another regional soccer championship Thursday. That’s after the Skins beat Wichita Bishop Carroll 4-0 Tuesday night at Redskin Field. Eduardo Campos scored Liberal’s first goal at the 30:49 mark with an assist from Socorro Martinez but didn’t score again until the second half. But the Redskins (15-3) used a strong south wind to bang three goals into the north net in the second half. Eduardo Moreno scored a goal just 16 seconds into the second half with an assist from Martinez to make it 2-0. Moreno scored his second goal at the 30:24 mark with an assist from Jose Flores. At the 25 minute mark, Auden Portillo netted Liberal’s final goal with an assist from Flores. Liberal junior defender Joe Pena says at halftime head coach Lori Navarro told the Redskins to step it up a notch. “She told us to pressure the ball more and win the 50/50 balls,” Pena said. “Just play as a team. She told us to set up a few plays in a triangle. The guys finally accomplished it in the second half and we put in a few more goals. If we just play like that we shoud do pretty good.”

The Redskins host 10-6-1 McPherson who blistered Ark City 5-1 Tuesday night in McPherson.
