Robert R. Annis, age 90, passed away on January 13, 2026, just two days after celebrating his birthday. He was born on January 11, 1936, to Lawrence Earl “Bill” and Pauline Frances (Binney) Annis, in Garden City, Kansas. He spent his entire life rooted in Grant County.
Robert was raised with strong values of hard work, service, and community. He graduated from Grant County Rural High School and continued his education at Colorado A&M and Fort Hays State University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army until 1964, when he was honorably discharged. Robert dedicated much of his life to agriculture. He farmed until 1982, after which he continued serving the community through his work at Grant County Implement. He also worked for the Ulysses Co-op in the fertilizer department, where he was known for his knowledge of the land and the people who worked it. On July 14, 1961, Robert married his beloved wife, Carol McCarty, in Garden City, Kansas. Their marriage was one of enduring love and partnership. Robert was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge for 68 years and attained the distinguished honor of a 33rd Degree Mason, reflecting his deep commitment and fellowship. He was also a devoted member of Shelton Memorial Christian Church, where he served faithfully and was honored as an Elder Emeritus. In his free time, Robert enjoyed golfing and reading and had a natural gift for storytelling- often enriched by his deep knowledge and love of Grant County history.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Jay and wife, Pam Annis, Beaty and wife, Sherry Annis all of Ulysses; daughter, Andra Moody of Hutchinson; 6 grandchildren, Brett, Cody, Brynden, Tate, Rachel and Garrett; and 8 great-grandchildren, Emmie, Corbin, Avery, Jayci, Emerson, Jett, Camdyn and Kayce.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Pauline Annis.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Casey Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79 and Masonic Rites conducted by Masonic Lodge #435.
