Kansas Gets Its First Historic Byway

KSCB News - July 23, 2010 12:00 am

A scenic route from Scott City to Sharon

Springs in western Kansas is now the state’s first historic byway.

The Western Vistas Historic Byway was

approved last week by Kansas Secretary of Transportation Deb

Miller.

The byway covers 102 miles, with many historical markers along

the way.

Travelers heading north out of Scott City would get off U.S. 83

and drive down Kansas Highway 95 past two historic sites – Battle

Canyon, the last Indian battle in Kansas, and Scott State Lake.

Drivers would get back on U.S. 83 toward Oakley, with stops at

Keystone Gallery and Monument Rocks near the Logan-Scott county

line.
