Jaivaren Edward Phillip Smith, age 15, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. He was born on May 7, 2010, in Lakin, Kansas, the son of Johnathon and Christina (McNett) Smith.
Jai, a sophomore at Ulysses High School, touched the lives of many through his kindness, energy, and generous spirit. As a proud member of Jag-K, he was known for his dedication to his school community and his willingness to lend a hand wherever it was needed.
He enjoyed gaming—especially on his Xbox—and enjoyed riding motorcycles on benefit runs. Jai was someone who constantly thought of others. He often organized fundraisers to support people in need, demonstrating a level of compassion and maturity far beyond his years.
Jai and his dad owned Blue Star Services. He took pride in his work and the beauty he helped create. His faith was an essential part of his life. He attended Community Baptist Church and youth group at Oasis Church.
Jai is survived by his parents, Johnathon and Christina; sisters, Kiersten Smith and fiancé, Alex Corpus, and Taaron Smith all of Ulysses; grandparents, Rick and La Jeana Smith of Syracuse, and Rosann Mattox of Wathena; great-grandfather, Jimmie Hill of Syracuse; his two adored nephews, Damon and Dailyn Corpus; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Jai is preceded in death by his grandparents, Donna Hill, Arthur and Barbara Smith and Jack and Sara Page.
Memorial service will be Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Oasis Church in Ulysses with Pastor Steve Swann, Jr. and Pastor Andy McMillan officiating.
