Seward County Commission Meets Purchases a Replacement Compactor for the Landfill

The Seward County Commission met on Monday evening and heard updates from Kirkham Michael, on Workers Compensation, and the Tax Recovery. The Commission also held discussion on Road and Bridge. The Commission approved the purchase of two tractors and mowers for the Road and Bridge, foregoing the Motor Grader that was budgeted for in 2026. The Commission heard approved the 2025 October Treasurer Report.

In other action items, Commissioners accepted a a donation from Air Products in the amount of $1,875 for the Rural Fire Department, approved the Seward County Health Department’s KDHE Grant Funds – Approval & Implementation Workflow procedure as presented, then formally accepted the KDHE grant awards for the Kansas State Formula Funds, PHEP, Family Planning, MCH, PMI, and IAP programs. Total amount awarded from KDHE $283,298.00.

Commissioners set up a separate fund for Tourism, Redevelopment, Aid, Innovation, and Legacy. Commissioners received $5,000 from the Boot Hill’s TRAIL program and will put the $5,000 in this fund and as well any other donations or grants received moving forward.

The Commission approved the bid from Foley for $700,000.00 for a replacement Compactor for the Landfill. In September 2025 the landfill had an equipment fire on their CAT 826H landfill compactor as they are in need of a replacement for daily operations.
