Bruce L McClaren, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, age 95, passed away Thursday evening, November 13, 2025. He was born on November 6, 1930 in Lewis Kansas to James Leroy and Frances Lucille (Vanderee) McClaren.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 70 years, Norma (Blanchett) McClaren. They were married June 19, 1955 in Dodge City, Kansas. He is also survived by three children, Diane and husband Howard, Odessa, MO, Janice and husband Jim, Longview, TX, Doug and wife Michelle, Fowler, Kansas, and a sister, Judy Wheaton, Lewis, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Julie) Leek, Milford, NH, Tonya (Brian) Lore, Overland Park, KS, Bryce (Katie) McClaren, Jason (Morgan) McClaren, and Matt (Kimmi) McClaren all of Fowler, Kansas, Laurel Hawes, Longview, TX and Michael Hawes of Madisonville, LA and eleven great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Lewis High School, Bruce served four years in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed sharing many stories from his time in the service with his children and grandchildren. Upon his discharge he returned to Lewis, later moving to Ulysses before moving to Fowler where he created and established his farming career for many years.
He enjoyed traveling with family and friends, fishing in Colorado, golfing and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in many activities. Recently a family gathering was held to honor and celebrate Norma’s 93rd and Bruce’s 95th birthdays.
He is preceded in death by an infant son, Leland B. McClaren; his parents; three brothers, Jay, Willis and David; and three sisters, Eileen, Thelma and Carolyn.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Fowler Cemetery, Fowler, Kansas. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will follow in the Fowler Cemetery.
