Sherry H. Pruett

Sherry H. Pruett, age 84, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025, in Johnson, Kansas. She was born on December 30, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Irvin and Pearletta (Conner) Herrell.

Sherry began her early education in Houston, Texas, and spent her childhood and school years moving to various states. She later returned to Houston to attend business school, laying the foundation for a lifetime of service and dedication to her community.

Throughout her adult life, Sherry made her home in Stafford, Kansas, where she raised her girls and built a life rooted in love. She dedicated herself to a variety of roles that reflected her compassionate spirit and strong work ethic, In 1973, she began her service at Stafford District Hospital, where she cared for others with kindness. Sherry settled in Johnson, Kansas, in 1997 and worked at the Stanton County Treasurer’s office for many years before retiring. Her commitment to helping others continued through her work with the Stanton County Cooperative Ministries, where she also volunteered as Storehouse Manager. She shared her love of music and arts as a board member of the Stanton County Community Concert Association, and the Stanton County Historical Society, where she served as past president. Sherry’s deep and abiding faith guided her throughout her life. She was a devoted and active member of the Ulysses Church of Christ.

Above all, Sherry cherished her family. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored.

She is survived by her daughters, Jema (Jim) McCardell, Sharla (John) King, and Carla Graeter; grandchildren, Casey (Cameron) Leiker Carruth, Devin McCardell, Taeryn McCardell, Duncan McCardell, Noah McCardell, Robert King, Abigail King and Charlie King; great-grandchildren, Candice Emma Carruth and Calista Jo Carruth.

Sherry is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, LaVonda Herrell; and the father of her children, Edwin Carl Graeter Jr.

Funeral Service will be on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson, Kansas. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
